Does it have an LED notification light?
  • corymcnutt - Friday, September 14, 2012 - link

Yes, it does have a LED light. Upper left.
  • retrospooty - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

I cant wait to try one out. Loving the screen. I played with a Note1 in the local Best buy a few weeks ago. OMG, the screen it just spectacular.
  • Cygni - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

YAY return of the stylus, this looks like a fantastic phone for your nostalgic mother who remembers the days of pocket pc devices, or for your grandfather with parkinsons who cant use a touchscreen effectively and precisely nobody else.

Also goddamn look at the size of that thing. Easily the funniest phone of the year. Can't wait to see a greasy nerd wipe his hand on his cargo jorts before pulling this thing out and watching anime off an external HD on the A train.
  • Pessimism - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

Not everyone has tiny, delicate, childlike hands. Some people appreciate something proportioned for someone other than mister 5'8 human average.
  • redchar - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

Hands are one thing, but there's also a matter of where you put it when you aren't holding it. Seems like certain pants might not cut it. Purse or cargo pants only?
  • teiglin - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

I can fit a 7" tablet in most of my pants' pockets. It depends on your size and clothing preferences. The original Note, though I only had one for a few weeks, was never a pocket issue.
  • Cygni - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

Funny, I've seen plenty of 6'6 people use a 3.5in phone just fine! Maybe you should try wiping the cheetoes crumbs off your hands first?
  • abrowne1993 - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

Interesting, I'm a relatively small man and I'm getting pretty sick of my 3.5" phone's lack of screen real estate. Guess there's a thing called personal preference, huh?
  • nathanddrews - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

I just upgraded from the LG Optimus S to the SGS3. 3.2" to 4.8". I can tell you that these big hands are much happier. My only regret is not waiting for the Note 2.
  • retrospooty - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

Size matters. I now have a 4.8 inch GS3 and I will NEVER go back to anything smaller. Anything lost to easily fitting into pockets of tight jeans is gained back 10 fold in screen real-estate. Tiny hand iPhone users have no idea what they are missing out on.
  • Cygni - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

No I'm pretty sure they see them in other peoples hands and laugh, like the rest of normal people.
  • retrospooty - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

"No I'm pretty sure they see them in other peoples hands and laugh, like the rest of normal people."

Do yourself a favor. Go to your local wireless store and test drive an old Note1. Browse the web for 10 mins or so and then decide.
  • Cygni - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

Oh I have. The thought that somewhere, someone looks at this and goes 'yeah sure, I'll hold this thing up to my head in public' is just a delight. Also, other than a woman with a purse, where does this thing actually fit?

Ah, cargo jorts from walmart, got it.
  • retrospooty - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

What does "public" have to do with anything?

Honestly, the iPhone, or any Android or Winmobile for that matter does so many things. Any smrtphone today has incredible functionality and connectivity. To have all that in a tiny screen is just a waste. Why do you think screens are getting bigger and bigger? People are realizing that they want it. Even Apple "Nno-one wants a phone with a larger than 3.5 inch screen" is going bigger. Get used to it wee man.
  • Cygni - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

Public has everything to do it. Because it's stupid, and the vast majority of humans possess this thing called shame, and as such, don't want to do dumb things in public. Like use a comically large Android phone.

And screens are getting larger because they are cheap, because they have to have SOMETHING bigger than an iPhone to offset the comedy operating system that is Android, and because bad consumers apparently don't have the foresight to see a bad product and not say things like "WOW THE SCREEN IS SO BIG!!" instead of "why do I need this? Why is this OS so bad?"

So as always, the answer for bad consumer electronics is bad consumers. Stop buying bad phones.
  • retrospooty - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

You are pretty clueless in your Apple haze. Android 4.1 has not only caught up, but WAY surpassed IOS. Android phones are bigger, faster, higher res, better battery life, better OS, clearly ahead in all areas. Not a surprise that its outselling IOS by 4 to 1 and climbing fast. Apple hasnt innovated at all in the past 4-5 years and the competition passed them by.

Enjoy your small phone and small world though.
  • Cygni - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

Small phone + small world sounds just wonderful compared to a large, shitty word comprised of badly designed phones and badly designed operating systems.
  • retrospooty - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

LOL,.. As if the iPhone even compares. Its not even in the same league with todays high end Android phones. Not even close, not in hardware or OS. Hell, the iPhone 5's 2 biggest features are a 4 inch screen and 4G both of which were available 2 years ago on Android.

OK, troll, I am done talking to you since you clearly have absolutely no idea WTF you are talking about.
  • Cygni - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

It's almost as if phones aren't just a collection of specs arranged in a grid, and are in fact cohesive productivity devices! Amazing!

Android is better than it was a few years ago, but thats essentially like saying "this piece of shit on the ground smells less now". It's still miles behind iOS in usability and polish.

And yeah, you should probably end this convo before your battery drains out in 5 minutes and you're forced to do a battery pull.
  • retrospooty - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

wow... you are a special kind of douchebag arent you? I agree Apple is the best product for someone like you.

Someday when you grow up, you may want to try something else. Until then, enjoy your "starter phone".
  • Cygni - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

Yes, one truly has to grow up to appreciate the beauty of twin-clocks and pre installed bloatware.

*twirls wine in glass* I find that HTCs preinstalled garbage skin has the most tannins for my strong adult pallet.

This has started to sound like some teenagers trying to reason with a grandma. And the grandma just refuse to reason with facts and figures, or something tangible, instead, she keep coming up with words like faith,'I believe', 'I think it is' and 'my point of view',etc.

So, please grow 'YOUNGER' , be logical, and Do yourself a favor, just list down 15 functions and usages you usually perform on your Iphone. Then find a friend who use Android phone, and compare those feature with his phone. Like watching a movie, make a call, saving a contact, using multiple apps simultaneously, toggle between them, etc. Then you judge logically which is better. But you don't have to always switch to the 'winner', nobody is forcing you, because you might already taken an oath to never touch an Android, I can understand, many does. This whole exercise is just to learn some humility, and respect.
  • alcalde - Wednesday, September 12, 2012 - link

    >usability and
    >polish.

That's the last defense of an Apple fan when they get owned on objective facts (I say this as a neutral party who doesn't own a smart phone). I've yet to have an Apple user give me a specific example of one of these generic "usability" issues, such as it takes 3 taps to get to this on Android, but 2 taps on iOS, etc. They start yammering on about subjectivity and just because they can't explain why or how iOS is more usable doesn't mean it isn't. I insist that they need to quantify it or it doesn't exist.
  • alcalde - Wednesday, September 12, 2012 - link

Linux runs this world and pretty much everything in it.
  • corymcnutt - Friday, September 14, 2012 - link

EASILY fits in a shirt pocket (I won't buy a shirt without a pocket for this reason) or a case on your belt.
  • thirdshop - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

Yeah, maybe you should go back to monochrome screens, 1meg of ram, and 2D graphics.
  • redchar - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

Is this the same poster that previously related anime to large phones to being unhygenic? Oh, yeah it is. I guess people can't have different preferences without being dirty.
  • brandnew234 - Friday, October 19, 2012 - link

Yes, I'm 6' 6" too. I have a 3.7 inch screen, and I f**king hate it. Bad battery life, and just way too tiny. I can type using the touch screen, but it's a pain. Media is terrible, and it feels like a dinky little toy in my gigantic hands. I could use the Note II just as easily as a 3.7 inch screen, and I'd enjoy it significantly more.
  • fr33h33l - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

You'd be surprised how many people these days (thankfully) don't believe in, or re-iterate, everything Steve Jobs says...
  • Cygni - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

You're right! Steve would have probably fired someone as soon as they said:

"Hm, what about a phone... thats too big to be a phone for actual human beings, since its not pocketable or comfortable... but also too small to be a tablet for actual human beings!!!"

Sarnsung on the other hand? Oh boy, push that to production.
  • StormyParis - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

You do realize the Stylus is an optional add-on for those who want the more precise control and pressure sensitivity ? For all others, finger touch works like on all other phones.

Also, people lauched at the size of my HD2, 3 yrs ago. Now it seems smallish. People are not even noticing my Note 1's size these days. It's a bit bigger than other phones, and a whole lot better.
  • shaolin95 - Wednesday, September 12, 2012 - link

Cygni, either you are just another moron trying to start a flaming war or you are simply stupid.
Do a bit of research of the things you can do with S pen before exposing yourself as a retard....but I guess that is too late now.
  • brandnew234 - Friday, October 19, 2012 - link

Well, yes.. But also gamers, people with creativity, power-users, high-media consumption, students, and enterprise. But yes, no one else could POSSIBLY be interested in the Note II's wealth of hardware, features, power, AND stamina.
  • Pirks - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

You see this screen and you never look anywhere else. I even dumped my HTC Titan because the Note's screen is that good. Even though Android feels like a low quality choppy/laggy iOS clone.
  • Jess131313 - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

Does it use a pentile like the Note1? HATE PENTILE!
  • StormyParis - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

I have no clue what the fuss about pentile is. I don't notice it at all.
  • Magichands8 - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

Actually, it does NOT have a pentile screen. The screen is updated from the Note 1. Apparently, Samsung has addressed the issues they had with high resolution non-pentile OLED screen and short life-times.
  • corymcnutt - Friday, September 14, 2012 - link

No, it does NOT use Pentile.
  • SilthDraeth - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

I have been eagerly awaiting this phone.
  • redchar - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

I just found it a funny thing to say here, since for some people like me, the phone would be too large to use with just one hand alone.
  • 1008anan - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

Specs are out of the park with 1.6GHz quad-core Exynos 4 (4 ARM Cortex A9 cores and ARM Mali-400MP4 GPU). Could you attach your Galaxy Note 2 to a high definition TV or projector and run 1080 P video?

Assume that most of the time only one of the A9 Cores runs at a lower clock while 3 cores sleep to conserve battery life. How much customization does the Exynos add on top of the basic ARM Cortex A9 micro-architecture?

Samsung fabricates the SoC on 32 nm HKMG. Wonder which fabrication process Apple will chose for the i-phone 5 SoC.
  • Death666Angel - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

GN2 should have an MHL capable port, so that you can output to 1080p displays via HDMI.
  • redchar - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

Honestly dual cores could already do 1080p with the right gpu and hardware acceleration. Now that was a borderline thing, so this should be more than enough.
  • Kranin - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

As much as it pains me to admit it, and as much as I have dreamed of a Nexus device, I think this is going to be my next phone. Verizon is the only carrier that offers adequate coverage at my home and I can't stomach getting a Nexus device on Verizon after the way they've strangled updates on the Galaxy Nexus.

GNote 2...my 6'8" frame shall most likely submit to your 5.5" screen! Damn you TouchWhiz.
  • Magichands8 - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

This phone looks truly amazing. The only thing I'm wishing hard that it had is wireless charging.
  • Kranin - Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - link

Agreed. I would imagine that an official wireless charging accessory would be available for the Note 2 simply because it is available for the S III.
  • michaelsammler - Thursday, October 18, 2012 - link

I know most readers on this site can easily recognize and disregard the angry troll comments, but I did want to share my experience with the galaxy note size.

In my wallet case (Jacklyn classy m.youtube.com/?reload=3&rdm=mc3h0528e#/watch?v=kJ9HeHKlfLg) I have my G Note, 4 cards (credit, bus pass etc), and some cash. I wear size 34inch slacks. The wallet case fits easily into my back pocket. Although it fits in my front pocket, it is noticeable and not as comfortable. But when not in the wallet case the G Note fits great in my front pocket. I don't where jeans. I do where cargo shorts, but use the normal pockets, not the cargo pockets for the phone.

So if you have need for a large screened phone and small screened portable tablet, if you don't want to carry around a sketch pad for drawing, if you watch videos when traveling and don't want to carry a laptop or tablet in addition to your phone and wallet, if you want to read ebooks but don't want to buy another device, if you like drawing without your finger blocking the screen, if you like google maps, if you don't care about a few peoples idea of how someone should look like while talking on the phone, then you probably will like the Note.

If you don't need a large screen or don't draw everyday you can probably find a better phone that fits your needs.

A blanket? How far has apple come since that commercial where the movie theater audience gets stuck with no options in till the athlete throws a hammer through screen? I'm glad I put my tech needs before ill conceived social norms. That washy I can have the most useful tech for me regardless of brand.
  • Dynamicadrenaline - Friday, October 19, 2012 - link

Not sure if led is for all
If anyone want to buy a big tablet,
    Buy a iPad
    It's the best.
    Note looks not much good
    Not opposing
Lg Optimus g is the best!!!
  • Marilla - Thursday, December 20, 2012 - link

I used to think I'd never think of my phone as a camera except for shooting traffic accidents or robberies under way. Then I saw the Note II's camera. As a graphics designer in Atlanta, the thought of taking pics of graphic elements I like, then sending them to myself via AT&T's 4GLTE is powerfully tempting. What an awesome feature, too, to be able to write on the pics. Wish AT&T would hurry up with it!
