Motorola Announces the MotoACTV, Android Based Fitness Device

This might not seem like the most interesting device to most, but the MotoACTV is being described as the most advanced piece of technology Motorola has ever produced, per square millimeter, that is. The 46 mm x 46 mm device is the fusion of a music player, heart rate monitor and GPS device with a small touch screen and running Android with a 600 MHz processor. The device tracks myriad fitness stats and is backed by the motoACTV.com website. The device automatically syncs via WiFi, and its music player tracks your performance relative to the music you listen to, and uses this data to play the music you perform best with at the appropriate time. This is just the first device they're announcing, so expect more. For now, expect this November 6th, online and in store, for $249 with 8 GB for storage and $299 for 16 GB.

Is this a competitor to the Nano? It's a great idea integrating GPS. Not sure if the Nano has it but it's an invaluable runner's tool. Seems pretty pricey for the size though.Paazel - Tuesday, October 18, 2011 - link

This is intended to compete with GPS running watches from Garmin and Nike +(TomTom). If the GPS is quick and accurate, it looks fantastic. The price is in the same ballpark as most Garmin Forerunner models, and those are just GPS. This thing does GPS, music, and Heart Rate (without the heart rate chest strap that you need for a Garmin watch).tristanbob - Thursday, October 20, 2011 - link
I have always wanted to track where my cat travels during the day, and I'm looking for a small in-expensive device that can sync the GPS coordinates when he returns. Of course this technology could be used for tracking anything (not-realtime of course, without a cellular data plan).
