Only a few kits there have impressive latencies and they will no doubt cost a boat load. I guess that doesn't affect most workloads. It would be interesting to see what sorts of workloads do see an increase in performance with lower latencies. Things like java are my first thought but maybe the commonly used GC configurations benefit more from throughput than latency. I'd expect any code with many branch mispredicts or consecutive cache misses would benefit from lower lantecy.
They would affect a lot of workloads. While the new AMD memory controller is really impressive, saddling 8 HT cores to only two channels isn't optimal.
While Threadripper is total overkill the extra memory channels are a huge help to the platform. I can see people buying the 1920X on purpose just to avoid oversubscribing the available RAM bandwidth.
When I first heard "8 core with 2 memory channels" I had the same reaction. While DDR4 throughput is impressive I think Ryzen will be throughput starved in many workloads. AMD needs a Zen update with a beefier memory subsystem. Everything in the execution department looks at least comparable to Intel. I guess more than 2x FP superscalar isn't really a thing.
